Super Easy 2nd Day Hair

by - Thursday, February 04, 2016

With midterm season quickly approaching, I thought I'd do a post on one of my favorite second day hair style. I know personally during midterms, I have many second or third day hair days.  One of my favorite parts of this look is that there is prep the night before, which creates a very easy hair style in the morning. This look definitely works better on second day hair than first day here due to the grip from the hair oils from the day before. This is necessary to achieve the light waves.

Night Before Prep:

I usually like some sort of light wave in my hair to do this hairstyle. The night before I want to do this look,  I start to prep the waves. In case you were wondering, a day or two before, after I shower, I put in a moisturizing creme, oil, and a detangler/leave in conditioner in my hair before I blow dry. Let me know if you want to see a blog post or video on a full hair care routine! The night before, I begin by adding a dry shampoo into the roots of my hair and also a little bit all over. This is to add a bit of volume and give my hair some hold for the next step. Next, I either french braid loosely, or braid my hair in one giant braid. If you french braid you'll achieve a look similar to here where the waves start higher up on the hair. With a normal braid, the waves will be lower on your hair. One of the keys to getting the waves all the same length is to make sure the end of your braid is not too tight. If it's too tight you might get creases in the end of your hair, which is a whole other look. After the braid is complete, I go to sleep with this braid.

Morning of:

I begin by unbraiding my hair, and that's when the waves appear. If you have any knots, carefully brush them out with a wide tooth comb. Be very careful because if it is brushed too hard, it might pull out the curls or make your hair frizzy. Once my hair is out of the braid and looking wavy, I take the top 1/4 of my hair and pull it into a high sort of Arianna Grande ponytail. In order to make the top of the pony super smooth, I take the wide tooth comb to gather the hair. Then, I take a small piece of my hair from the bottom and wrap it around the base of the ponytail a couple of times. Using the end of that piece of hair, I bring it to underneath the ponytail and bobby pin it in place. This gives a nice finished look to the pony tail. My secret tip to making your hair super shiny is taking some sort of hair oil (I use this one) and applying it to the mid-ends of the hair.

I love this hairstyle because it takes me under 5 minutes in the morning which is perfect when for running off to class. I hope you enjoyed it too! Let me know if you enjoy hair posts as well as my typical makeup and skincare posts.
